The SSVFD is a volunteer fire, rescue and EMS department with a primary response area that includes the Olney, Sandy Spring, Ashton, Leisure World, and surrounding communities. We respond over 6,000 calls for service annually across our response area. Your contributions are a key part of sustaining and growing an exceptionally busy volunteer organization with highly trained and dedicated members, and helping us to invest in life-saving equipment to enable our community to grow and flourish.
The SSVFD relies on donations from our community and various year-round fund raising programs to support every aspect of our Department. We have grown to keep up with the community, and we need the support to continue to grow as the community does.
We continue to proactively invest in equipment, people, and training to help you when you need it the most.
If you call for help at night or the weekends, it’s likely a volunteer will answer the call. As the community grows and ages, we get more calls. This translates into more wear and tear on equipment and the need to replace old equipment and buy new equipment.
The county only provides a fraction of the advanced equipment we have for the Olney/Sandy Spring community. Having specialized equipment such as water boats, all terrain vehicles, a tanker truck, and a new state of the art aerial tower allows for a better response to help you and your family when you need it the most.
We are always planning for the future. New fire vehicles can cost upwards of $1 million. Your generous support helps the department remain a state-of-the-art department for the years to come.
