Fire investigators discovered a body in the remains of a house gutted by fire last night.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Pete Piringer said that the victim’s identification is pending.
At about 10:15 p.m., firefighters arrived at 16100 Willow Lane, Rockville, to find the two-story house fully involved in flames, he said. The home is located near Emory Lane.
Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Kelley was the on-scene commander. In addition to Sandy Spring Station 40, units from Rockville, Kensington and Gaithersburg assisted, bringing 75 firefighters to the scene.
“It was an exterior attack only,” said Kelley. “The owner was unaccounted for. Neighbors said he was home at the time.” Kelley said the remains were found this morning with the assistance of a search and rescue dog.
Firefighters remained on the scene throughout the night and into this morning. Kelley said the cause remains under investigation.
