Monday, March 2, 2020 – SSVFD Units Run Early Morning House Fire

On March 2, 2020 at approximately 0428 hours, Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department (SSVFD) Company 4 and surrounding stations were alerted to a house fire in the 18500 block of Brooke Road (Rural Box Area 04-03). Units arrived on scene with smoke showing, which prompted a Rapid Intervention Dispatch and Water Supply Task Force. As the incident progressed, a Task Force was requested. Units worked hard throughout the early morning hours to contain and extinguish the fire. Units cleared around 0930 hours.

A Rural Box means there are no hydrants available in the immediate area, and the water must be brought to the scene via a relay of tanker trucks. A normal fire engine carries 750 gallons of water, while  a tanker holds 3500 gallons or more of water. SSVFD Tanker 704 was the first due tanker, and an additional five tankers from adjoining areas responded to assist, both from Montgomery and Howard Counties.
