Sunday, February 21, 2021 – SSVFD Responds to Injured Person on Trail at Rocky Gorge Reservoir

On Sunday, February 21, 2021 at approximately 1455 hours, Sandy Spring Paramedic Engine 704 and Ambulance 704 were alerted to an injured person on the trail in the area of Ednor Road at Browns Bridge (Rocky Gorge Reservoir). A short time later, Sandy Spring’s Utility Terrain Vehicle 740 and Burtonsville VFD Brush 715 were dispatched to assist. Paramedic Engine 704’s crew searched for the patient along an ice covered trail. The patient was found near the water‘s edge. Additional resources were requested, including Sandy Spring Boat 740, Burtonsville VFD Rescue Squad 715, and Howard County Boat 11. Rescue Squad 715 and Brush 715 brought additional equipment to Paramedic Engine 704’s crew so they could make access down a ravine to the patient, while Boat 740 and Boat 11 prepared to launch. The patient was accessed by water, and brought back to the Browns Bridge Boat Ramp for further evaluation. Additional units on scene included Battalion Chief 704 (command), Chief 704, Chief 704B, Chief 712B, Chief 715, and EMS704. This incident was challenging due to ice conditions along the trail and on the Rocky Gorge Reservoir.
