SSVFD Junior Member Samantha Combs Adds State Softball Title to Her Resume – Saturday, May 25, 2019

On Saturday, May 25, 2019, Samantha “Sam” Combs, a junior member at the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department (SSVFD), led the Sherwood Lady Warriors to the Class 4A State Softball Championship with her pitching, defeating Glen Burnie by a score of 8-7. The game was played at the Maryland Softball Stadium in College Park adjacent to the Xfinity Center. Class 4A is the highest public school classification in Maryland and it is comprised of the State’s largest schools by enrollment. The Sherwood softball team won the State championship in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. They were a finalist in 2017 but failed to reach the Championship game in 2018. Behind Sam’s pitching, Sherwood returned to its Championship ways in 2019, having defeated Paint Branch, Urbana, Howard, Bowie, and finally Glen Burnie, to earn the Championship. Sam’s friends and colleagues at the SSVFD congratulate her and her teammates on their accomplishments this year.
