Saturday is Family Day during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Activities include small group sessions, family activities, a vigil in the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Chapel, and a Candlelight Service. Both the Candlelight Service and Memorial Service are open to the public unless weather or other factors prohibit holding the Candlelight Service outdoors. The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial is held on Sunday and is the official national tribute to America’s fallen firefighters, and including a traditional honor guard and bagpiper procession. During the ceremony, each family receives an American flag. The service concludes with the unveiling of the plaque listing the names of the honored fallen fire heroes.
